Enormous thanks to all those who visited and contributed in any way to Saturday’s plant sale. The sun shone on us all and it was clear that being able to mix socially was just the best thing, plus we raised just over £1500. Being together, catching up with old friends and making new ones is something we’ve been deprived of for so long – let’s hope we never forget how important it is. Particular thanks must go to the ‘Quaranteenies’ who from a seed of an idea grew it into a blooming lovely event in only a few weeks. Thank you!
We are delighted that we will be taking part in the Shirley Jumble Trail this Sunday from 11am to 12:30pm. Everyone was so generous with donating plants and indoor pots that we still have lots that need to find a home!! Here’s a map of all the places you can visit on the trail. Hopefully see you Sunday whether it’s for one of our services or for our plants.
We are looking for any unwanted planters – terracotta, earthenware or ceramic. Please leave at the Vicarage.
If you are thinning out plants or have grown seeds and have an excess of plants etc, we would be happy to receive these. We would be grateful if you could hang onto any plants until Friday 28th May but if you have something you can offer please let us know so we have an idea of what’s coming in.
We would welcome any help on the day – setting up and running the stall.
Please contact either Helen on 07770 885545 or Viv on 07799 571939 with details of plants, offers of help or if you have any questions.
Nick & Jonty are taking on a 53-mile ultramarathon for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity because of their incredible support for their Granny Sally Maguire. If you would like to support them and make a donation in Sally’s memory here’s the link:
Please join us by watching the livestreamed ceremony on Thursday 13 May at 2pm UK time (4pm in Jerusalem). You can watch the ceremony on YouTube here or on Facebook here and will be able to post messages of congratulations live. Bishop Christopher will be representing the Archbishop of Canterbury at the installation.
Friends of the Holy Land has joined with Embrace the Middle East and religious leaders in the UK (including Bishop Christopher) to bid farewell to Archbishop Suheil Dawani on his retirement and to welcome Bishop Hosam Naoum to his new ministry. You can watch their video messages here.
In his message, Bishop Christopher thanked Archbishop Suheil for his friendship, guidance and wisdom. “It was a wonderful privilege in January to sign the Covenant which brings our two dioceses together in fellowship and in missional common purpose,” he said.
In an ecumenical message led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Lord Rowan Williams, two patrons of Friends of the Holy Land, all involved pray that the Holy Spirit be a companion to help Bishop Hosam in his ministry, particularly as it starts during the current difficult times in Jerusalem.
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus. Christians from more than 170 countries and 65 denominations have taken part.
Thy Kingdom Come runs between Ascension and Pentecost, and in 2021 will take place from 13-23 May.
During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:
Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus
Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness
What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.
